General Information

WRESTLING PREP SUMMER CAMPS 2009 - Kastl's Ranch Half Moon Bay, CA

Wrestling Prep, Carolyn Wester and CC Fisher have been holding camps all over the Bay Area since 2006. With the original Camp being at Amador Valley High School and having OTC Coach Ike Andersson, 3X World Champion Sergi Beloglazov and CC Fisher through Santa Clara High School, Palo Alto High School, Los Gatos High School to the Kastl’s Ranch in Half Moon Bay in 2009, to Newark High School, Lynbrook High School to the Facility in 2010 the camps, wrestlers and clinicians have truly evolved. In the summer of 2011, 358 wrestlers participated with clinicians and counselors like Coach Mike Krause, 2x NCAA Champion and UPENN Head Assistant Coach Matt Valenti and 2X NCAA Qualifier & CA CIF Finalist John Hall, 2X NCAA All American  & 4X CA CIF Finalist and 3X CA CIF Champion Jason Welch,  Olympic Training Center Resident  NCAA All American CA CIF State Champion and 3X CA CIF Placer, 2X Jr Pan Am Games Gold Medalist, University Nationals Champion Nikko Triggas, CA CIF Champion Hunter Collins, 2X NCAA All American 2X CA CIF Champion Ryan Flores and many more.

PHILOSOPHY

For the last six summers, we have done everything possible to help wrestlers train and prepare to reach their wrestling goals. The list of wrestlers who have worked, trained, participated in camps, open rooms, resident training, mini camps, clinics, daily training, body positioning classes, team camps, match morning & match nights, college prep & recruiting, nutrition classes and their successes is too long to list. While we have done our very best to document some of this in photos ( over 100 albums available to review by going to  http://www.facebook.com/media/albums/?id=721302583 ) it is impossible to list them all. They have been of all age ranges and skill sets and have come from everywhere in California to the East Coast.

Some of what we have learned is that Summer Training is imperative to next season success whether it is for Middle School, High School or College Level. That wrestlers need to learn technique, mat and competition strategy, training techniques, warm up routines in a repetitive and duplicatable manner. That often a wrestler can be shown something once but with out opportunity to review and practice week after week through out the summer that they may not retain and apply what they have learned effectively when needed. Because of this understanding we endeavor to put together a multi faceted program that allows for all of these components to be incorporated.

In addition, we have ascertained that Match experience must be obtained in the summer and off season. In general, we try to find approximately 100 + matches for a wrestler in the off season. To help achieve this goal in a concise effective and NO COST way, we created a Match Night & Match Morning Schedule (based off of CYC and Cali Extreme) that allows a wrestler to get between 5 to 12 quality matches in a two to three hour times frame. We also have year round OPEN MAT wrestling every Sunday at NO COST.

One thing we know definitively is that putting together a Spring, Summer & Fall program that encompasses all the variegated and divergent events, classes, clinics, camps, open rooms is COMPLICATED. It is not simple and it is not simple to comprehend. We apologize up front that there is a lot of information. However, we are happy to answer your questions in person and we greatly encourage you to review all the opportunities and to contact Carolyn via text or phone on 650 245-3533 or carolyn@wrestlingprep.com with any and all questions.

The encompassing philosophy of the Wrestling Prep Camp Program is to provide effective instruction that fits individual wrestlers needs in an environment  and by instructors who repeatedly coach at the facility. Whether it be annually, two to four times a year or every month, any wrestler who receives instruction through a camp at Wrestling Prep has ample opportunity to receive repetitive training and review from the original clinician or others with expertise on what they have learned while adding new technique to the catalogue they already have.
The winning wrestler is not always the one who knows the most but the one who does what they do the better than the competition. This is a philosophy we incorporate into the Camps program – we want them to become the best at what they know while teaching them add on progressive, enhancing and effective new technique.

Resident Training or Resident Training Camps is the most comprehensive opportunity a wrestler has to gain an expansive amount of knowledge, from a wide range of clinicians and counselors and practice it with outstanding wrestlers (collegiate, international and high school).

The purpose of Resident Training is to provide specific training to each wrestler based upon their needs. Resident Training is grouped into a 5 to 7 day period referred to as Week One, Week Two, etc. It is not uncommon for a wrestler to stay 30 to 45 days.  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY RESIDENT TRAINING DIFFERENT FROM CAMP? Resident Training is more comprehensive, covers additional topics and training that makes a wrestler more competitive on many levels. Often camps progress a wrestler in one specific area but can not compensate in other areas that are needed to be a viable competitive wrestler such as nutrition, academic preparedness, targeted training toward areas of need in their body work.

WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE IS IN RESIDENT TRAINING AT THE SAME TIME A CLINICIAN CAMP IS OCCURRING? Wrestlers who are at Wrestling Prep at the same time as a Camp will participate in the camp as well as doing additional training. The cost of participation in the camp is covered in the Resident Training Fee (with the exception of Mike Krause camp which is additional cost). All of the camps occurring at Wrestling Prep are created to encompass one part of the mat space (5000 sq ft of mat space) and specific time frames with allow the resident athletes to participate in their structured and scheduled training.

WHAT DOES OUR WRESTLER NEED TO BRING? Sleeping bag and pillow (if flying in we can provide or buy one when they arrive) bathing suit, two to three days worth of gear (we have washer and dryer on site), sweat shirt and sweat pants, toothbrush and other toiletries, phone chargers and electronic accessories. There are four showers in the wrestling facilities and WP provides towels for all wrestlers daily.

HOW DO WE REGISTER? You can register you wrestler in a variety of ways. To pay online go to PAY ON LINE and send an email to carolyn@wrestlingprep.com with the Resident Training weeks your wrestler wants to participate in along with date of birth, weight, home address, shirt size and best contact information. You can also mail a check payable to Carolyn Wester to 5586 Civic Terrace Ave, Newark, CA 94560 (business address – not facility address) and include the Resident Training weeks your wrestler wants to participate in along with date of birth, weight, home address, shirt size and best contact information.  call Carolyn directly at 650 245-3533 and register over the phone.

HOW DO WE FIGURE OUT WHAT WEEKS WORK BEST FOR OUR WRESTLER? The best way to achieve this is to call Carolyn directly on 650 245-3533. She can go over in detail the options and schedule for each week and you can work together to ascertain what is in your wrestlers best interest. If you prefer to work by email please email Carolyn at carolyn@wrestlingprep.com.

WHERE DO THEY STAY OVERNIGHT? Depending on the number of athletes in the resident training program per week, they either sleep over night at the Wrestling Prep Facility where we throw down sleeping bags on the mats or they stay in Carolyn Wester’s home.

HOW DO THEY EAT? The Wrestling Prep facility has multiple refrigerators, freezer, microwaves, mini ovens, ice maker, BBQ grill and feed the athletes at the facility. We feed them three to five times a day. Please note that we do not serve junk food and often wrestlers want to purchase snacks and such when there is opportunity. However, we do not provide money for the athletes to buy snacks so your wrestler will need to bring additional money with them to do so.

HOW DOES RESIDENT TRAINING WORK? The athletes normally participate in three structured and scheduled work outs a day that each vary. One will be around body positioning and leverage. Very focussed, quite hard and traditionally very different from any training they have done previously. A second will be technique driven based upon the characteristics and patterns the resident athletes have in their wrestling. Because so many of the resident wrestlers are very accomplished, we focus not on re-creating their wrestling but adding on and enhancing. For the newer wrestler, they benefit here by actually learning the technique for the first time and learn the enhancements. The third is usually live wrestling, competition strategies and live situations. In addition to these three, the resident athletes have one on one coaching and participate in informational sessions about college prep, academic readiness and nutrition.

INDIVIDUAL SUMMER 2012 CAMPS

The encompassing philosophy of the Wrestling Prep Camp Program is to provide effective instruction that fits individual wrestlers’ needs in an environment and by instructors who repeatedly coach at the facility. Whether it be annually, two to four times a year or every month, any wrestler who receives instruction through a camp at Wrestling Prep has ample opportunity to receive repetitive training and review from the original clinician or others familiar on what they have learned while adding new technique to the catalogue they already have.

The winning wrestler is not always the one who knows the most but the one who does what they do the best. This is a philosophy we incorporate into the Camps program – we want them to become the best at what they know while teaching them add on progressive and effective new technique.

We provide Summer Instructions in two basic formats, Resident Training and Camps/ Mini Camps. This summer we are holding Five Wrestling Prep Camps. Two of these are week long with both overnight and commuter options and three of these are weekend camps with both overnight and commuter options.

In the summer of 2012 over 300 wrestlers received instruction in the Wrestling Prep Camps/ Mini Camps or Resident Training Formats.

MATCH MORNINGS / MATCH NIGHTS

We are VERY happy to Announce the 2012 Match Mornings & Match Nights schedule through August 2012. (more for september & october coming later).

Match Nights & Match Mornings is one of the most effective ways to obtain between 5 and 12  high quality matches in a short amount of time (usually 2 to 3 hours) at no or minimal costs.

In addition, if a wrestler is pinned or tech’d prior to end of 6 minute match – the wrestlers reset and continue the full 6 minutes. There is no elimination or pairing based upon results prior or at match morning. It is the best event possible to guarantee mat time.

In 2011, we had MANY SUCCESSFUL events as chronicled in the below pictures and videos.

Many coaches have asked us for this schedule and we anticipate having as strong of attendance as last year. In addition, if you have an interest in bringing an entire time and participating in camps or clinics or trainings the day before or the day after Match Mornings & Match Nights we are happy to do so. Also, we have mat space for teams to sleep over if they give us a heads up and bring sleeping bags & pillows.

This year we have a long list of Guest Clinicians & Counselors along with Mat & Body Awareness / Positioning Training available. Please do not rely on the Wrestling Prep published schedules as the final word on what is available. Please contact Carolyn directly on 650 245-3533 or carolyn@wrestlingprep.com.

To register send an email to carolyn@wrestlingprep.com with the Resident Training weeks your wrestler wants to participate in along with date of birth, weight, home address, shirt size and best contact information.

BODY POSITIONING FOR WRESTLING

This is for the athlete who wants to maximize their efforts and what they have learned. Often an athlete learns technique but either does not have the understanding of what muscles need fire in what order or simply has not developed completely the specific muscles to execute the technique correctly.
This is a 90 minute class correlated directly to specific technique. Many wrestlers benefit from this class immediately as they are able to achieve results from minute adjustments of their body.

 The Summer Class for this begins Tuesday July 12 and runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 3::30 pm to 5:00 pm thru August 16, 2012. This is a No Cost class and is scheduled at time where there will be a one hour break before Nightly Training Mini Camp and Elementary & Middle School Practices occur.

*     Tuesday & Thursday July 12 thru August 16, 2012
*     3:30 pm to 5:00 pm
*     No cost
For more information contact Carolyn 650 245-3533 or carolyn@wrestlingprep.com.
MATCH NIGHT & MATCH MORNING

Match Nights & Match Mornings is one of the most effective ways to obtain between 5 and 12  high quality matches in a short amount of time (usually 2 to 3 hours) at no or minimal costs.

In addition, if a wrestler is pinned or tech’d prior to end of 6 minute match – the wrestlers reset and continue the full 6 minutes. There is no elimination or pairing based upon results prior or at match morning. It is the best event possible to guarantee mat time.

Frequently ASKED Questions

* Why are there Camps mentioned that don’t yet have dates? We try to work with Clinicians and Counselors that are in high demand, currently training for international competition or collegiate competitors. Many of our regular clinicians and counselors are either competing in the upcoming Olympic Trials or are waiting on mandatory training schedules from their college programs before committing to summer dates.
Where do the wrestlers stay for overnight camps and residential training? We ask that each wrestler bring a pillow and sleeping bag and we stay at the facility on the mats (once they have been cleaned). In some cases with Residential Training and the number of wrestlers staying over is under 10 we stay in the Head Coaches home but pillow and sleeping bag are still needed.
