This Quiche is AWESOME! It's a great way to eat right for wrestling, and not give up great taste! Ever since Carolyn shared this with us to help our son with his nutrition - we made it a family regular!!!

Hey there!

Thank you for your kind email and for your post on the wrestling prep site. I will endeavor to answer your questions from your email here : ) Then you can tell me about you please and your relationship with wrestling : ) Is that agreeable?

why wrestling for you? After a long career in corporate america and some life changing events I began my new career in wrestling. That begin at Stanford Club program. A OTC resident came to coach and he felt I had unique talents and pushed me to coach.

How did you get into the sport? My hs sweetheart was a great wrestler as were my cousins. Patterns, angles and math is something I see in my head. Wrestling, with the angles, patterns and math of the movements was always intellectually stimulating for me.

have you coached hs teams in both calif and ky? I have never coached a specific team. Our organization is non-partisan and is made up of 100's of hs wrestlers but no majority school. It is too hard for the kid who doesn't want to work hard so usually the top 20 % of the hs teams train here year round. Have not done anything with wrestling in KY. We left ky when I was in middle school for my parents employment in Washington DC. I attended Robinson HS that was a wrestling powerhouse. My hs sweetheart went to a private school in the area and my cousins wrestled for falls church. Here we are 60 % hs 30 % college with the majority being d-1 and 10% mini's.

I guess your club has produced some champions at both mens/ womens cif hs wrestling tournaments over the years? I wouldn't say we produced anything but more helped catalyze individuals success and enhanced their efforts. All great achievements whether winning state (42 boys champs 78 boys placers in CA, NC, VA ) or FARGO Champs (12) or FARGO Placers (31) or Iron Man (2 winners - 11 placers) or S32 (2 winners - 6 placers) or NCAA AA's (5 AA's) are certainly the results of dozens if not hundreds of peoples input. We have had 5 or so women work through here that have matriculated to college programs and won state or national titles. However, I would say 95% of everyone that walks thru the doors are male. I grew up with twin brothers and spent most of my summers as the only girl at an all boys camp that was owned by my maternal family (along with a military school). I am very comfortable with males in sports and the wrestlers are very comfortable with me.

We are thrilled women's wrestling is growing. It is terrific. We are fortunate to have Marcie Van Dusen in the area as the Head Coach of Menlo College. Unfortunately, I am not overly familiar with women's wrestling in California and the number of female coaches etc. There is a local man, Steven Hernandez whose daughter has state and national titles and international medals. He would be a terrific source of current and accurate CA Women's wrestling information. His number is 650 270-7857.

I have yet to see a female head coach of a boys team or club at any tournament besides myself. I have coached at Iron Man, S32, Nuway Admiral's Cup (dual teams) etc.

Officiating is not something I have done but last year i saw several women officiating at boys tournaments.

overall, are you happy with your club? how many men/ women in your wrestling club? I guess you help all wrestlers onall levels, i really dont believe there are many wrestling clubs like yours? We could not be happier. We don't really consider ourselves a club as we do an organization/association or opportunity. We are non-partisan, low cost and we endeavor to get some of the best coaches available to be here regularly. We are not singularly affiliated with any organizations or governing body and we are not part of any school, school system or the jurisdiction of any CIF entity. We have CC Fisher regularly/every week, we also have had Matt Valente four times in the past year, along with Mike Krause and many others (if you have an interest you can see most of all of them on my personal Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=721302583&sk=photos) We also have Mini Camps / Camps with regular counselors of Ryan Flores, Jason Welch, Nikko Triggas, Cody Rodebaugh, Dominic Kastl, Beau Martino, etc., etc. This summer we had 358 individual wrestlers through our doors between June 20 and Aug 20 - out of the 358 we had 2 NCAA D1 Championships - 5 NCAA AA's 24 Natl HS Championships, 41 Natl HS AA's, 24 State Champs and 53 State Placers. In season we have approx 100 to 150 wrestlers a week either in week day evenings or sundays. We definitely help all wrestlers all levels. Our name came initially from doing ancillary enhancements. My unique expertise is body positioning and angles and the correlating exercises / gymnastics. We also do comprehensive nutrition and have been very successful in college recruiting supplementation. I have no idea if there are many clubs like ours. We have not put much energy in duplicating so I have not really investigated. We seem to morph organically out of surveying and observing need. We really want each wrestler that wants to get better to get better. We feel it is our job to help be a catalyst for that.

Was this helpful?

Thank you again for your interest!

Sincerely,

C -

Many thanks to Carolyn Wester and her many highly credentialed Guest Coaches and Camp Counselors at Wrestling Prep.

When we met Carolyn, my son, Dominic (Washington High School, Fremont) had already wrestled two seasons in which he'd gone 1-5 and 2-4 in his own league and had less than 20 bouts experience meaning his first two seasons up to that point were dismal and in my opinion he was a lifetime behind lifetime wrestlers and at least two years behind the others. I considered the possibility that he didn’t have the aptitude to compete.

Since our association with Carolyn and her contacts, Dominic has won some intermediate tournaments and qualified for section championships 2 times with 5 wins and 2 controversial matches that by rule should have been wins (one in which he’d have placed, we deferred).

He has a lot of work to do to fulfill his potential in the coming senior year but he's in the right place to take that step, thanks, in no particular order to Carolyn, CC Fisher, Vic Pereira, John Hall, Matt Valente’ and Nikko Triggas, as well as others that touch Carolyn's circle.

Without Carolyn and her associations, I have no doubt that current and future success would elude Dominic and many other fine, developing wrestlers.

We'll update this comment after what I anticipate will progress to be a successful season.
